That Choir is committed to supporting the work of local and Canadian emerging composers. The New Works Development program is a workshop program dedicated to the development of new choral compositions. Participants will have the opportunity to work with Artistic Director Craig Pike, Composer in Residence Matthew Emery, and the choir through workshop-style rehearsals, and will be provided with two thirty-minute sessions, including feedback assessments and time for editing/revisions. One final composition will be chosen and premiered at That Choir Carols on December 17, 2017 as part of our 10th Anniversary Season.

Guidelines:
- Compositions surrounding themes of Winter, Christmas, and the Holiday Season.
- A cappella choral submissions only. Scores should be in development, or new unpublished works.
- Submissions will be done electronically and should include a legible score (PDF format). Midi mock ups are optional.
- Participants are strongly encouraged to include examples of other completed works that demonstrate compositional style (scores and/or audio are accepted).
- Composers must be available to attend workshop rehearsals and performance in Toronto, Ontario on the following dates: October 2, November 20, and December 17, 2017. Travel expenses are not provided.
- Composers must secure rights to any non-public domain texts and verification of secured rights for use of texts must be included with submissions.
- That Choir will cover copying costs until the final edits deadline. Photocopies are the responsibility of the composer if any edits are made after this date.
- After completing the online application form, please submit all PDF and audio materials by email to info@thatchoir.com. Clearly label each attachment as follows: yourlastname_NewWorks1 (and so on).
MATTHEW EMERY | COMPOSER-IN-RESIDENCE

We are delighted to welcome Matthew Emery as That Choir's very first Composer in Residence. In addition to a commission that will be premiered in May 2017, Matthew will lead our New Works Development program that will workshop and develop new Canadian choral music.
Matthew Emery (b.1991) is a Canadian composer who "writes with an honesty which enchants" (Vancouver Sun). His music has been performed across North America (Canada, USA), Europe (England, Sweden, Estonia, Russia, Spain, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland), Asia and Oceania (China, New Zealand, South Korea) and has been heard on national television and radio both in Canada and USA.
Matthew is the recipient of the ACDA Raymond W. Brock prize (USA) and the ACCC Diane Loomer award for Choral Writing (Canada), among many other awards from across North America.
